About Bethany Beach
Read about our beautiful coastal area.Located in “The Quiet Resort” area of southern Delaware, Bethany Beach is part of a seven-mile stretch of picturesque, sandy Atlantic Ocean beaches that also includes South Bethany and Fenwick Island. It was founded in 1901 by the Disciples of Christ Evangelists as a site for summer camp meetings for the faithful. The founders of Bethany Beach were six Pittsburgh businessmen: W.R. Errett, a lawyer; John M. Addy, a plumber; W.S. Kidd, steel manufacturer; R.S. Latimer, a tea merchant, Dr. T.E. Cramblet and W.A. Dinker.
The activities available in Bethany Beach are endless! Our waters are safely suitable for all types of water activities; boating, sailing, windsurfing, fishing, crabbing, water skiing, swimming, scuba diving, shelling, surfing, clamming, beachcombing. As for the quarter-mile boardwalk of Bethany Beach, it is the haven for all visitors and locals alike. It is not a loud, entertainment packed boardwalk like Ocean City. Bethany Beach is a more family-oriented town with lots of shops and eateries to enjoy. Or if you prefer to just relax, Bethany Beach is the right place. You can relax right on the boardwalk and watch the waves of the ocean crash into one another.
If you prefer land activities over water recreation, we’ve got something for you too. There are plenty of quaint beach shops in Bethany Beach as well as the nearby Tanger Outlets, 25 minutes away, for the shop-o-holics. There are also numerous golf courses open to the public and many restaurants and café’s in and surrounding the area
The Bethany Beach summer season is filled with activities for children of all ages. There are many events that take place on the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Bandstand. These events are always free of cost for the public to enjoy. For more information about the Boardwalk Bandstand or to find out about upcoming events, visit the Town of Bethany Beach Bandstand page.
